HCMC prosecutors reject $400,000 bail for internet mudslinger

HCMC People’s Procuratorate said Thursday that police will continue to investigate Hang, 51, the general manager of Dai Nam Joint Stock Company in southern Binh Duong province for “abusing democratic liberties to violate the interests of the state and the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and/or citizens.”

Ho Chi Minh City police arrested Hang in late March.

Her son, Nguyen Quang Tuan, late last month offered to pay VND 10 billion to get his mother out of custody, citing a 2018 Ministry of Public Security circular allowing someone to be rescued with money.

He argued that Hang could provide a definite and clear residential address, that this was the first time she had committed a crime, and that she had a good citizen record as she was publicly praised by various state agencies on various occasions for her charitable activities.
