New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to the Indian Navy on Navy Day and wished the individuals and their families saying that they have steadfastly protected our nation and distinguished themselves with their humanitarian spirit during difficult times.

“Best wishes on Navy Day to all Navy personnel and their families. We in India are proud of our rich maritime history,” Modi said in a tweet.

On December 4, the country celebrates Navy Day to recognize the role of the Indian Navy and commemorate its achievements in Operation Trident during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar along with CDS General Anil Chauhan, Indian Air Force Chief Marshal V R Chaudhary and Deputy Army Commander Lt Gen P S Raju pay homage to the martyrs at the National War Memorial on the occasion of Navy Day.

For the first time, Navy Day celebrations are being held outside Delhi. The Indian news agency reported that the Indian Navy will show India’s combat prowess and ability through a “hands-on demonstration” in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.

President Draupadi Mormo will pay a two-day visit to Andhra Pradesh from Sunday to attend Navy Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam, among other programmes.

The Commander-in-Chief will be the chief guest at the Navy Day celebration at Ramakrishna Beach in Vizag, where she will witness the operational parade of the Indian Navy and will also virtually inaugurate various projects for the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Defence.
