He said: ‘I don’t think Thierry Henry was at Anelka’s level.

‘Titi was good, but I knew the players. I preferred other players. Anyway, he wasn’t on my level. The luck or the bad luck I had was not to play for France.

Prior to Henry’s arrival at the Catalan club, the now former Everton, Chelsea and Inter striker did not say the Frenchman could replace him at Barca, insisting the two could play in the same team.

He said: ‘That’s not my problem. She is by Frank Rijkaard.

‘Some journalists wanted to create tension between ‘Titi’ and me. I’m laughing. I have ‘Titi’ on my phone all the time. If he comes to Barca, thinking that he will put Samuel Eto’o on the bench, I say “no”. We will play together. We will be teammates.

‘I am not entering into any controversy. I would like the coach to sign ‘Titi’. He is my friend.’
