Bruno Fernandes on Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Manchester United

“I don’t feel uncomfortable. I don’t have to choose sides. It’s an honor to play with Ronaldo in the national team, at the club it’s a dream come true, I’ve always said that. Cristiano has always been my inspiration. It was a dream but we know nothing lasts forever. Now Cristiano has made decisions for his life and career and we have to respect every decision.”

Wales add rainbow flag to corner in training

They were one of seven countries banned from wearing #OneLove armbands on Monday. The USMNT also changed the color of the insignia around the training facility.

Perhaps FIFA will decide that these also constitute political symbols…

Lewandowski continues penalty kick for Poland

Poland coach Czeslaw Michniewicz says captain Robert Lewandowski will continue to take part in the penalty shoot-out for Poland despite his loss in yesterday’s 0-0 draw with Mexico.

Based on expected saves, the power and placement of his penalties still saw scoring 74% of the time.

“No coach tells a player how to take a penalty. Two days ago in training, he did something different. He made a decision in the game, but it’s not the end of the world. Louie knows how to take a penalty. Just As far as I’m concerned, if there is a possibility of a penalty against Saudi Arabia, nothing will change. Unless that’s Robert’s decision.”

Luis Enrique loves extra time

Spain coach Luis Enrique has a twitch! how young! How free!

He’ll provide updates from here throughout the tournament and has some interesting commentary on all the overtime we’ve seen so far — multiple times over 10 minutes.

“I really like all the added time, most of all because with a team like ours that has a lot of possession, we always complain about not having enough time to actually play.

“So I think it’s fantastic to play so much time in both halves, the most efficient time (better). Any team can play as much as they want, but the more minutes the better. So I’m very much in favor of this. It’s the right thing to do.”

ICYMI: France defender Lucas Hernandez out of World Cup with knee injury

France have been hit again by injury at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, with Lucas Hernandez ruled out for the entire game after torn knee ligaments in Tuesday’s 4-1 win over Australia.

Bayern Munich defender Hernandez, 26, limped off the pitch with a knee injury following a collision with Matthew Leckie.
